It provides a unique forum to present and disseminate the results of research, development and innovation.

The event is taking place in Paris, France from August 21 to 25, 2023. The theme of the congress is "Refrigeration for Sustainable Development" and it covers a wide range of topics, such as:

  • Cryogenics and cold applications in life sciences
  • Food science and engineering
  • Heat pumps and energy recovery
  • Refrigerants and refrigerating equipment
  • Thermophysical properties and transfer processes
  • And many more

The congress is expected to attract more than 1000 participants from over 60 countries. It also features a rich social program, including a welcome reception, a gala dinner, technical visits and cultural tours².

The International Congress of Refrigeration (ICR) is a flagship event of the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR), which is an intergovernmental organization that promotes scientific and technical knowledge in the field of refrigeration and its applications.

The first ICR was held in Paris, France in 1908, at the Paris-Sorbonne University.
It was the first international meeting of experts and industry representatives to discuss the latest developments and challenges in refrigeration.

Since then, the ICR has been held every four years in different countries, covering all fields of refrigeration and its related disciplines. The congress aims to foster collaboration and exchange among the global refrigeration community, as well as to provide perspectives on the future of the industry in line with sustainable development.

The ICR 2023 is the 26th edition of the congress and it will mark the return of the event to its birthplace, Paris. It will also celebrate the 115th anniversary of the IIR and its contribution to the advancement of refrigeration.
